1. Meta Scores A Point With Muse
Meta launched Muse last week to great fanfare. It’s tough to differentiate between the capabilities of the top AI apps at this point, but Muse is tilted in a more agentic and mass consumer direction. Its simplicity on that front may allow it to gain some market share and, more importantly to capital markets, justify Meta’s AI spending. Zuckerberg seemed pleasantly surprised by the uptake:
“You never really know when you ship something how people are going to respond. Every once in a while it’s a home run and people love it out of the gate, but most of the time you get some feedback that’s positive and you have to iterate on a few things before they really click. This one just really clicked right out of the gate. So it’s been very exciting to see, and the fact that we’re like two weeks in and there’s millions of people using it is, I don’t know, this is pretty rare. Every few years we get something like this, but this is definitely the fun part of building a company.” - Meta (META -3.62%↓) CEO Mark Zuckerberg
Aside from the implications for Meta, Muse seems to be a psychological win for AI agents generally. The AI industry has been pushing the idea of agents for most of this year. We’ve seen their mass adoption in coding. Muse may be a bridge that allows for mass adoption by a broader population.
Of course, more agents mean more demand for compute, especially CPUs.
